The EHS&S Manager is responsible for managing the EHSS Department at the Lemont and Joliet terminals in Illinois. The EHS&S Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all business activities in the Illinois terminals in accordance with company policies, local and federal regulatory agencies. The position directly manages specialists in environmental compliance, employee safety, and site security.
Job Responsibilities:- Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate compliance with all applicable environmental, health, safety, and security regulations for local, state, and federal agencies. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, recordkeeping, reporting and development of other submissions to agencies.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and enforce EHSS regulatory and company policies and procedures.
- Maintain an understanding and knowledge of current federal, state, local, and company regulations and policies (EPA, NFPA, ASTM, API, PHMSA, DOT, USCG, etc.).
- Assist in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of professional EHS&S knowledge, skill, and abilities.
- Assist in incident management, including performing root cause analyses, developing, and tracking corrective actions, and implementing preventative measures to eliminate accidents.
- Perform and execute training related to environmental, health/safety, security, and compliance training.
- Review and recommend modifications and changes in equipment or procedures to achieve environmental or health/safety goals.
- Must understand and help enhance the safety of our facilities, employees, customers, and the public.
- Support the operations and engineering functions of the business as warranted/assigned.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, local governmental authorities, and local community organizations.
- Develop and mentor staff in leadership and technical skills necessary for succession.
- Oversight and supervision of the Health and Safety Manager, Environmental Manager and Facility Security Officer.
- Ensure compliance with air and water permits, oversee sampling activities, and oversee development of air and water permit modifications.
- Oversee solid and hazardous waste activities, including sampling, analysis, and proper disposal.
- Oversee EHSS monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting processes.
- Oversee the facility security plan and manage the security department.
- Oversee the facility Site Remediation activities.
- Provide support to the Operations and Maintenance Departments on EHSS matters.
- Review new products or processes for evaluation of potential safety hazards and environmental permit implications.
- Review and recommend modifications and changes in the facility's equipment and/or procedures to achieve environmental or health/safety goals.
- Participate in customer and internal audits as well as internal EHSS audits at other IMTT terminals as needed.
- Develop and manage the EHS&S budget for both terminals
- Respond to emergencies as needed.
- Bachelor's Degree in an EH&S or engineering related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience with a track record of progressively increasing
- responsibility.
- Record of regulatory, Environmental, Health and Safety training
- Experience in the storage terminal or petrochemical industries.
- Strong leadership, management, supervisory and interpersonal skills. The ability to influence across organizational lines is critical.
- Demonstrated ability to understand business challenges and find compliant solutions working in partnership with management teams.
- Accreditation(s) from a well-established environmental, safety, or professional accreditation entity
- OSHA 511 or 510 certificates preferred
- Valid Driver's License
- TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials)
- Ability to obtain and maintain Hazwoper certification
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Class K Industrial Wastewater Operator Certification
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Well Water Operators Certification
- Ability to understand written and verbal communication in the English language
- Excellent math and communications skills
- Proficient in the use of computers and familiar with most common office software (e.g.,
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to make decisions in a variable environment
- Ability to communicate with all other terminal departments
