The Instrument Engineer reports to the Lead Instrument Engineer and is accountable for providing a combination of technical expertise, leadership and supports all aspects and requirements of the I&E function to meet the immediate and long-term business and production needs while supporting Process Safety Management requirements and driving continuous improvement in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Job Responsibilities:- Responsible for developing and implementing long range plans for instrumentation reliability.
- Provides instrument checkout and start-up support of the facilities to meet production and business needs.
- Guides and trains area personnel on instrumentation technologies to assist production, safety and reliability efforts.
- Creates and maintains related documentation, files, procedures, databases, drawings, and schematics to ensure integrity of unit’s instrument records. This includes, but not limited to, SIS, Capital Projects, Standards and Procedures, Loop sheets, Specification Sheets and the DCS, etc.
- Have a working knowledge and ability to apply related standards in the electrical & instrumentation field, such as ISA, NFPA, NEMA, IEEE, IEC, OSHA, API.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Instrument and Control Systems
- Manufacturing plant experience (Chemical Plant Preferred): 5 years
- Experience must include the design, creation of specifications, selection, and installation of instrumented systems: 5 years
- Experience with pneumatic and electronic instrumentation interfaced with DCS or PLCs: 5 years
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and support instruments, control panels, and control systems and infrastructure
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of I&E drawings including electrical schematics, loops, logic diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of instrument calibration, commissioning, process control principles, and Regulatory Compliance.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Safety Instrument Systems and Layer of Protection Analysis Standards
- Supports overall unit instrument systems and Management of Change. (MOC)
- Assists manufacturing, process technology and maintenance with troubleshooting instrument and electrical controls systems.
- Executes Management of Change and complete design to implement identified improvements or projects correctly and safely.
- Acts as I&E liaison with Engineering Contractor for projects to ensure policies, procedures, standards, and specifications are met.
- Writes andor approves project scopes
- Reviews, redlines and approves I&E drawings
- Establishes and maintains installation details and standards
- Represents business unit during Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) as needed and set standards for implementing site and corporate I&E standards
- Manages and ensures procurement tasks.
